The Deeps, Unique holiday cottage near Blanchland

Quality Cottages in Blanchland.

Welcome to “The Deeps”. This is a unique holiday house, on a hill and beside a forest along the Northumberland and Durham borderline. You have your grounds, field and forest walks. The house is furnished to a high standard and includes all the modern conveniences as well as many curios from the past. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty. The roads are small and no one goes fast around here. In many ways this is how most of Northumberland was 50 to 60 years ago.

We know that visitors like to see where they are going to stay. They want to make sure that there are no nasty surprises and that everything is as it should be. This is what this blog is written to do. It is predominantly photographs and a little chat about local amenities. Here you will find all you need to see just how special this house is.

Book the house here.

If you have any questions please just contact us either by email, enquiries (at)

ps…latest news…the Deeps was hired by a band of musicians to record their latest album. See more here.

Thank you

  1. I am currently staying at the Deeps and i can honestly say this is one of the best holidays i have ever had. There are not enough superlatives to describe this cottage. It’s like living in the past but with all your modern day luxuries. The peace and tranquility are fabulous. We have spent a week here with our dog and i don’t think any of us are looking forward to going home tomorrow. The only negative (although small) that i can think of is to maybe have a second television in the kitchen or conservatory as i have had to watch the soaps all week. Not good for a man.Nevertheless we will be looking to have a return visit in the summer. The guy Tim who works for the Owner has been more than helpful with his local knowledge. He has given us some spectacular walks and even brought us some fresh hens eggs one morning. Not much else to say apart from i will be recommending the Deeps to my friends and family.Superb.

    • Thanks Neil,

It is indeed a special house and having all that land and freedom is priceless. I particularly liked the south facing conservatory and the views north across the valley.

  2. Since booking 6 months ago we were looking forward to spending Christmas week at The Deeps, and we were not disappointed. Within 15 minutes of arriving we settled in immediately and had already decided to book up for next year. As everyone else has commented the cottage is in a superb location and is a perfectly laid out home from home. Very clean and tidy, nothing can be faulted, especially the comfortable beds. Everything you need has been provided – from appliance instruction manuals to wi-fi for keeping in touch with the outside world. The dogs never tired of being walked around the field and through the woods, plenty of signs of wildlife but sadly none sighted. Even though the weather was not the best during our week it never put us off and once back indoors with the fire burning it was great to sit and relax with a few drinks. This was a fantastic place to spend Christmas and a lovely kitchen diner to prepare and eat dinner in. If possible we hope to return for a few short breaks before next Christmas and will thoroughly recommend The Deeps to anyone looking for a special place to come for an occasion or just for a getaway. Our 11 and 13 year old daughters never once said they were bored or wanted to be home.
